Bali

Bali is the perfect place for a relaxed, fun trip. You’ll find everything from world-class beaches and surfing to traditional dance, lush rice terraces, and incredible temples.

If you want to be completely spoiled, stay in one of the island’s many luxe beach resorts. But you’ll also find plenty of great options for frugal travelers.

The Best Time to Visit: During the Dry Season

The best time to visit Bali is between May and September when the weather is most agreeable. It’s also the best time to see the volcanic volcanoes and participate in water sports.

How to Get There: Getting to Bali is easier than you think. The island’s Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar) is a short drive from the center of the island and most hotels will arrange transport for you.

It’s also a good idea to book accommodation ahead of your arrival. This will make your trip much easier and cheaper.

Safety:

The good news is that Bali is relatively safe, especially when compared to many other tropical destinations. While some cases of sexual assault and other minor crimes have been reported, these are mainly nonviolent.

Food:

Authentic Balinese cuisine is delicious and affordable. Try nasi ayam, chicken rice; babi guling, a roasted pig; and oxtail soup.

Shopping:

The shopping scene in Bali is more developed than you might expect in a low-key Indonesian tourist destination. It’s full of boutiques, international fashion, and art galleries.

Bali’s unique vibe and gorgeous landscapes have earned it a top spot as the world’s number one travel destination. But if you don’t have much time, it’s important to plan your itinerary carefully.
